Wintzenheim, 7971 inhabitants, is a viticultural and tourist town that lies at the entrance to one of the most beautiful valleys of the Vosges, the Munster valley. It is first mentioned in a Murbach Abbey charter dated 786 under the name of "Wingisheim". Fortified in 1275, the locality retains its historic character with typical half-timbered houses, fountains, picturesque quarters, castles, churches and chapels.
The Town Hall is the former manor of the Knights of St. John, the "Tournebourg". Stained glass windows retrace the town's history. Wintzenheim offers a warm welcome, a happy blend of commercial activity, winegrowing, sports, arts, peaceful surroundings and an excellent environment. The town is richly endowed with forests, castles, lakes and mountain trails, culminating in the Stauffen (900m).
In the shadow of its famous vineyard, Wintzenheim is an ideal place to stay, close to the capital of the Haut Rhin, Colmar, and at the entrance to the most beautiful valley of the region, the Munster valley.

Among the sights to be seen here at the crossroads of the Five Castles Route are : The Hohlandsbourg castle, an historic monument built in 1279, now being fully restored in its majestic stting. The Pflixbourg castle, erected in 1220, stands guard like a sentry at the mouth of the Munster valley.
The Herzog Chapel, in the Logelbach suburb, is a copy of the Sainte Chapelle in Paris. The same suburb was the birthplace of Baron Haussmann, the famous Paris urbanist. The lakes of the Vale of Aspach.

There are numerous hotels, restaurants, private guest rooms and furnished apartments to welcome visitors and tourists alike, while Grand Cru wines from the celebrated Hengst vineyards can be tasted in several wine cellars. All year round, various events organised by the Municipality and by local associations (walking tours, tournaments, 14 July fête, parish fête, GSW Autumn fête, Christmas Market, Easter Market, Flower Market…) add to the pleasures of life in an idyllic setting.
